Template — must be reviewed by a lawyer before use.

This document is a starting point, not legal advice. It must be reviewed and adapted by a qualified lawyer for your company, jurisdiction and customers before the service is offered to the public. Replace every highlighted [PLACEHOLDER].

This Acceptable Use Policy describes how the Screaming Data Service may and may not be used. It is provided by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [COMPANY ADDRESS].

01Scope

This policy applies to every use of the Service, including use by your employees, contractors and the end users of your products. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

02What the Service is for

You may use the Service to build products, analytics and research on the data it provides — for example price and rank tracking, catalogue analytics, reporting and market research — within the limits of these rules and applicable law.

03What you must not do

  • Use the Service for anything unlawful, or in a way that infringes the rights of others, including intellectual property, privacy and consumer-protection rights.
  • Use the data to deceive consumers or manipulate marketplaces, for example to fabricate reviews, manipulate rankings or misrepresent products.
  • Try to identify, profile or track private individuals, or combine the data with other sources for that purpose.
  • Share, sell or publish API keys, let third parties use your account, or resell the raw data as a standalone dataset or competing API without our written agreement.
  • Circumvent rate limits, quotas, billing or security measures, including by using several accounts without our agreement.
  • Probe, scan or test the security of the Service without our written permission, or interfere with its operation or with other customers’ use of it.
  • Direct webhook deliveries at systems you do not control or are not authorised to use.
  • Put personal data, such as names or e-mail addresses, into tags, external_user_id or other free-text fields.

04Responsible use

Keep request volumes proportionate to your needs: send tasks in batches, prefer monitoring for recurring data, and respect the rate limits. Contact us before large one-off jobs so we can plan capacity.

05Reporting problems

Report security issues, suspected abuse or leaked keys to [email protected]. Please do not disclose security issues publicly before we have had a reasonable time to fix them.

06Enforcement

We may throttle, suspend or terminate accounts and revoke API keys that violate this policy. Where possible we will contact you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. Serious or repeated violations may lead to immediate termination.
