Each keyword is checked once a day in Amazon’s default search, across all departments. The first check follows within minutes of adding it.

Every check with history, or one row per UTC day with daily: the median, best and worst position of the day.
Every record says what was checked and how deep the check went.
Position 1 is the first organic result of the search. Sponsored placements are not counted.
When another variant or edition of the product is listed, that is the product’s position; matched_asin names the listing that was found.
Every check says how many organic results it covered (checked_depth, usually 100). A product not among them has organic_rank null: read it as “not in the first 100”, never as “absent from search”.
Every check keeps its own record. The daily view gives one row per UTC day: the median, best and worst position, the checks made and how many found the product.
Search results vary between visits
One request starts tracking; the positions are there whenever you ask for them. Both examples are the documented ones.

A keyword whose product is not found for 30 days in a row stops being tracked; add it again to resume. Positions already recorded stay readable.
